The history of the Coptic Orthodox Church begins in the first century. When our Lord Jesus Christ commanded his disciples to “make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the H oly Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded
you” (Matthew 28:19-20), the gospel writer (St. Mark) heeded his words and went to Egypt to bring Christ message to the people. It was then that the Coptic Church was founded(historically known as the Church of Alexandria). The Church flourished and many converted from idolatry to Christianity. The Church became renowned for its faith and love. The Church produced great people who defended the faith; thriving for over 2000 years following all the teachings of Christ.
